Recovery after an implant exchange

From the outside, an implant exchange looks "smaller" than the first surgery. Inside, tissue that already carries history — a capsule, an existing scar, years of adaptation — has to reorganize around a new implant. Recovery is often calmer than the first time, and it still deserves the same respect for the phases of healing.

What happens, phase by phase

Inflammatory

Days 0–7

Swelling and tenderness peak, usually milder than the first surgery — unless capsule work was done. Support is gentle and protective.

Proliferation

Weeks 1–4

The tissue adapts around the new implant and the scar re-forms along the previous line. Lymphatic work and gentle care support the process.

Remodeling

Weeks 4 and beyond

The scar matures again and the tissue softens around the new shape. Scar quality and comfort are supported over the following months.

How the method supports your recovery

Manual lymphatic drainage, photobiomodulation, scar work and taping are tools — chosen by phase, and adapted to what your surgeon actually did: a simple exchange, capsule work or a combined lift each ask for a different rhythm.

Frequently asked questions

Is recovery different from my first breast augmentation?

Often calmer — the pocket already exists and the body knows the path. But if your surgeon worked on the capsule or combined a lift, the inflammatory response can be stronger. The plan adapts to what was actually done, which is why we ask about your surgical report.

When should support begin?

As early as your surgeon allows — often within the first week for gentle drainage, with scar work starting once the incisions have closed. The old scar line benefits from care as it re-matures.

Do you work together with my surgeon?

Yes. The support is conservative and complementary to medical care. We respect your surgeon's guidance and communicate whenever it is relevant to your recovery.
